An investigation into the possibilities of love
L'Amooore is a short film that investigates the theme of love, feelings and affectivity.
The short film has as its authors and protagonists the participants of the theater workshop of the Sorriso Association of Cusano Milanino, who become "investigators of feelings."
The group tackles the theme together with the residents of Cusano through interviews, small scenes and a few poetic moments.
Each of us needs to express our needs and desires related to emotional/loving relationships. But those with disabilities sometimes have fewer opportunities to do so.
Amooore aims to show how this sphere of existence belongs to everyone and to help build a common territory that gives the opportunity to break down prejudices and promote reflection on the issue, also through the organization of exchange and training meetings.
HOW DOES LOVE COME TO BE?
L'Amooore (Love) was conceived and created by a group of artists and participatory process experts together with the actors/authors of the Sorriso Association's theater workshop. The project arose from several desires: to give people living with disabilities a way to talk about affectivity/sexuality; to let Sorriso workshop participants experience a new language, that of video; to make the Sorriso center and its activities known outside the territory; to create a moment of dialogue between Sorriso attendees and local residents. The journey takes inspiration from a course on affectivity and sexuality organized by Il Sorriso Association in past years and aims to be its ideal continuation.
THE WORK
Participants were involved in a workshop process to define the themes to explore and best capture the group's desires and proposals. A work that required a lot of time but allowed creating an authentic product that truly reflects the participants' feelings.
The meetings also brought the group closer to a new language, video: they experimented with using camera and microphone, addressed what a cinematographic point of view is and how a scene can change when edited in different ways. Besides learning how to relate to a camera and becoming increasingly aware of the phases that lead to creating an audiovisual product, the journey helped decode the mass of images we're subjected to in daily life and made us more aware of how our image can be treated.
In parallel, we worked on the theme, so vast it required three O's: loooove. It was developed through theatrical improvisations, interviews, and work on body and word. Gradually, a dramaturgy took shape: the interview structure and poetic moments where words are replaced by a gaze. It came naturally to think of the video as an investigation, a poetic research on love that included not only workshop participants but people in general. For this reason, filming went beyond the Sorriso Center and the research was extended to residents and workers of Cusano Milanino. We encountered an inclusive and welcoming territory, another element worth telling.
